A host who knows the sporting room
A sports dinner is not a conference. The room is noisier, the loyalties are louder, and the guests already know each other. Rhys hosts it the way it wants to be hosted: warm, quick, and in on the joke, while keeping the running order, the sponsors and the kitchen exactly where they need to be.
From 2014 to 2026 he was the voice of the WRU Official Members Club in Cardiff on international match days, interviewing Wales legends live in front of members and holding a full room from the doors opening to kick-off. That is the same craft a sportsman’s dinner, a club awards night or a hospitality lounge needs.

Live interviews that carry the night
The guest player is why people bought the ticket. Rhys interviews them properly: researched, relaxed and paced for a dinner room, drawing out the stories the audience came for and knowing when to let a good one run. At the Members Club his guests included Shane Williams, Dan Biggar, Mike Phillips, Leigh Halfpenny, Liam Williams, Jamie Roberts, George North, Adam Jones, Dan Lydiate, Josh Navidi, Aaron Shingler, Tom Shanklin, Josh Adams, Dewi Lake, referee Ben Whitehouse and Wales women’s internationals. He is just as comfortable with a club stalwart being honoured for forty years of service.
Awards, raffles and the money moments
Most sports dinners have a job to do beyond the entertainment: a raffle, a live auction, a sponsor to thank or a captain to present. Rhys keeps those moments tight and lifts them, so the room gives generously and nobody watches the clock. If you need a host who can also sing the anthem or close the night with a number, he is a trained bass-baritone.
How Rhys works with your club or committee
He joins a short planning call, agrees the running order with whoever is producing the night, checks names and pronunciations, and briefs the guest player on the format. On the night he arrives early, works with the venue and AV team, and stays close to the organiser so timings can flex without anyone noticing. Based in Essex, close to London, he hosts sports events across the UK.
